Cookshop

Cookshop Restaurant is located on 20th Street and 10th Ave. It has a great atmosphere. The crowd is the Meatpacking/Chelsea-stylish-crowd. But it's not stuffy like Pastis. It's a very good place to go when you have friends in town. My favorite brunch menu is the Bread Basket, Dandelion/Fried Egg Salad, Cookshop Scramble with Salmon OR pasture-raised Burger. Really good food that's worth the price.

Forge

You have to go to Forge. It is an awesome restaurant. It's new American food cooked up by Marc Forgione. The food here is amazing. It changes depending on what's fresh in the market. I had the Foie Gras and the Chicken Nuggets. Yum. The name 'nuggets' is misleading, but these balls of chickens are delicious. The scallop, the duck and the ribs are all delicious. The crowd here is great too. Not pretentious, but low-key down to earth people. The waitstaff are excellent. Definitely recommended!

Viceroy

The ultimate restaurant to people-watch in Chelsea. Day or night, the Chelsea crowd comes out of their nests and this is the restaurant to watch them from. From trendy guys to gorgeous girls, somehow they all walk by this restaurant. And with the almost-ceiling to floor windows, this restaurant is perfect. Oh, and the food here is good too.

Our Place

This Chinese restaurant was name best Chinese food by Zagat a few times. It's classically good. It's not the Chinatown-food, but it's also not the takeout-food. It's a decent sit down dinner where everything is served family-style. The prawns are good. Since it's on the east side, it's a bit difficult if you don't live around the area. But you should check this out when you can.

Amy's Bread

The last dessert place for today's postings, I promise. I have a sweet tooth today. Amy's Bread has 3 locations that I know of, one in Hell's Kitchen, one in Chelsea Market and one on Bleecker St. Either one you pick, the red velvet cake and the carrot cake are the best in the city. Very soft, moist and not too sweet. A slice will last you for a long time. Enjoy.

Go to amysbread.com to find your nearest location.

Eleni's Cookies

This place is quite cute. Located inside Chelsea Market, this place specializes in designing special cookies for all events. During the election season, they had both Obama and McCain cookies. It's a really fun place to see all the colorful cupcakes and cookies. The flavors here are okay. But their design is worth mentioning.

Located in Chelsea Market. Just follow the pinkness.

Fat Witch Bakery

This one deserves a close-up product shot. Fat Witch brownies are the best brownies. These little brownie squares are so packed full of flavor and chocolate density that you'll be full after a quarter of the bite. They have a variety of flavors too. I really like the original flavor. It's classic. But the white chocolate and the Wicked-green ones are also good. If you're lucky, you should go on a day where they have samples out. It's basically free dessert for the day.

Located in the Chelsea Market. Just follow the chocolate scent once you walk in.

Nobu

I was fortunate enough to go to Nobu several times and try their Omakase dinners. It's basically a set of 7-8 courses that the chef prepares for you for the evening. There are different levels of Omakase. I've only tasted the 'low' and 'middle' priced. It's an amazing experience in a beautiful restaurant. The price is high, but really worth it.

Surprisingly though, I think the sushi at Nobu is a bit bland. I think they've done a spectacular job on their main course dishes. If you ever get the broiled black cod or the baby abalone, then it's your lucky night.

Chez Napoleon

This French restaurant in Hell's Kitchen has been in business for over 40 years. The dishes are classically French and classically good and delicious. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The crowd that goes here skews a bit older. Not quite sure why. The decor features classic French history and it's kinda nice. The family who owns this restaurant is also very nice. If you want to have a low-key classic French food, go here.

This place is located on 50th St near 9th Ave.

Don Giovanni

Everyone raves about this Italian restaurant. For me, maybe I had high expectations, but the food is just good (not 'amazing' as some describe). The Pizza is just good too. Prices are very reasonable here, and the crowd is very relaxing and easy going. It's a perfect choice for pre-theater dinner. In Hell's Kitchen, I feel that you can throw a rock in any direction and you'll find an Italian restaurant. This one is just one of them.

This place is located on 44th St. close to 9th Ave.

Balthazar

I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. On one hand, I enjoy the food, but sometimes the crowd can be very annoying. And the waitstaff can get very snotty. But the food is great. So if you can tolerate the crowd (tourists and pretentious crowd), just get your friends together and be in your own bubble and ignore everyone else. You're good to go, because you'll definitely enjoy the food.

Balthazar is in SoHo on Spring St. (just right by Broadway)

Kum Gang San

There are tons of Korean restaurants in K-Town. One of them (if you can find it) is Kum Gang San. It's difficult to distinguish these Korean restaurants after a while because they all look (and sometimes taste) very similar and you really don't know where you are unless you're outside, looking at the restaurant. But, all of the Korean restaurants in K-Town is good. I've never been disappointed. I think with any Korean restaurants, the prices can get you.

Kang Suh

Another Korean restaurant in K-Town. Also very good. Make sure you come with friends who can share dishes to enjoy the entire menu. Good atmosphere if you're looking to be surrounded by Asians. Check out this place if you can't get a table at the other Korean restaurant.

Craftsteak

I think this is one of the most beautiful restaurants in the city. I have a soft spot for high-ceiling restaurants - especially in NYC. I went to Craftsteak with a friend on a very late night reservation. Unfortunately, we didn't really order any steaks because we weren't feeling steaks by 11 pm. So we ended up ordering the chicken and fish - which were actually very good. Also, you need to order tons of sides with the main dishes, which can drive up your bill. I think this is a great restaurant for those with large groups that want to stay for hours.

Haru

Haru Sushi has several locations in the city. The one I'm referring to is on the UES. It's located 76th and 3rd Ave. This place claims they have progressive sushi menu and I think they're 80% right. I'm sure everyone knows about this trend of adding fruit (like mango and papaya) to sushi, and I don't think this restaurant quite mastered that yet. However, their other sushi selection is very very good. Check this place out when you're in the mood for sushi. They have several locations all over the city.

Lasagna

I'm honestly not a big fan of this place. For some reason, I really think the food is a bit overpriced for what you're getting. I kinda set my expectations now, BUT it is located at a great spot in Chelsea. The outdoor seating is awesome in the summer time. And you can just watch people. When you're done eating, head down to Barney's Co-op. It's right around the corner.

Wildwood BBQ

When you think of barbecue in general, you're probably thinking of backyard parties or even smokey places like Daisy May's. But this restaurant on Park Ave offers up a nice balance of a very-well decorated restaurant with very tasty barbecue dishes. The lighting in this restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. And I never used that word. The crowd can get a bit loud and the chairs are somewhat uncomfortable. But the beef ribs are delicious.

Hourglass Tavern

This prix fixe restaurant is great to go to before the Theater. Located in restaurant row in Hell's Kitchen, this small tiny place offers up a variety of food for almost every tongue. The price however is a bit pricey, but you get a full course from appetizer, main course and dessert. The atmosphere is great and every waitstaff are very nice. Go check it out one day.

Big Daddy Diner

Located on Park Ave, this diner is fun to go to. The food and menu isn't special, but the vibe is. It's very similar to the Brooklyn Diner, but everyone here wears a t-shirt "who's your daddy?" The crowd comes from all over the place. On weekends you get the young Park Ave. brunchers and you get the 'I wore the same clothes from last night because I didn't go home" brunchers.

Magnolia Bakery

The cupcake craze in this city is insane. And I'm not even going to give them credit. However, I will mention the Banana Pudding - which is to die for! The long line is absolutely worth it for the Banana Pudding. The cupcake? Not so much. I think it's good... but waiting in line for it? Not so much. Banana Pudding? Yes, worth the wait. That's my two cents.

UPDATE: The peanut butter cookie is awesome! This place is located on the ever-so-becoming-a-mall Bleecker st. But there's another quieter location on 6th Ave by Rockefeller Ct.
